All NSFIHA team officials (coaches, managers and safety persons) must have on file with NSFIHA a current criminal record check. Volunteers wishing to apply for a criminal records check should contact our Safety and Risk Manager first at safety@northshoregirlshockey.com to get the required details.

Respect in Sport is an online training course designed as a tool to assist coaches and team staff in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport.

All NSFIHA team officials (coaches, managers and HCSP safety persons) must complete the RIS online course. Please click here to complete the program. RIS certification expires after 4 years.

BC Hockey also offers a Respect in Sport Parent Program, which consists of a one hour online training program. All parents of NSFIHA players are strongly encouraged to complete in this program.

The Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) is a required certification for all Team Officials to have completed before participation in any practice or games. Click here for REGISTRATION.

All Avalanche parents must demonstrate their commitment to fair play by completing and submitting the BC Hockey parent code of conduct and fair play form at the start of the season:

Parents are also encouraged to complete the Respect in Sport: Parent Module from BC Hockey. This program helps define a model of behaviour for all parents and create a more rewarding, safe and respectful environment for everyone involved in youth sports.

Depending on what level you plan to coach,  please consider the following certification expectations as outlined here on the BC Hockey site:

1. Coach 1 or equivalent: coaching a team below Atom divisions (NSFIHA Tyke or Novice)
2. Coach 2: coaching a non-carded/house level team at the Atom and above divisions
3. Development 1: coaching a carded team (PeeWee and above) that will not be participating in Regional or National Championships
4. Performance 1: coaching a carded team (PeeWee and above) competing in Regional or National Championships

In order to be apply to be a coach for the North Shore Avalanche, applicants must read the NSFIHA Coaching Application Commitment here and agree to the understanding of the commitment and process of review for applications. Hockey Canada has developed a new FREE online course on how to navigate the challenges presented by COVID-19 called: ‘Planning a Safe Return to Hockey’. This course is mandatory for all North Shore Avalanche officials, coaches, HCSPs and team managers for the 2020-21 season.  It is also available and suggested for hockey parents to educate themselves regarding the protocols in place for their child(ren).

This course takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and there is no charge. The ‘Planning a Safe Return to Hockey’ course can be accessed through the Hockey University platform HERE.

Following the course, the participant Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) profile will be updated. Please complete the five (5) question survey at the end of the course in order to be issued your certification for the course.
