U15

Division Overview

The U15 (formerly Bantam) level is for girls 13 or 14 year's old (Grades 8-9). This program is designed to progressively improve personal and team hockey skills for early teen girls. This level caters to players who want to play recreationally and competitively. There are U15 evaluations or "tryouts" hosted at the start of the year which facilitate player placements.

The season begins in September and ends in early March after a round of playoffs. U15 players will usually have 1-2 practices per week followed by games as scheduled throughout the season; the competitive "rep" teams will have more practice times. Teams play home games on the North Shore and away games usually within the lower mainland. As well, teams will often arrange to play several tournaments throughout in the year. Competitive "rep" level teams may also have the opportunity to participate in the BC Hockey Provincial Championship tournament in March.

The program focuses on:

  • Advanced skating skills, including speed, endurance, and edge control
  • Puck handling
  • Shooting and passing
  • Understanding of hockey rules
  • Competitive hockey strategies and plays
  • Fitness: strength and conditioning
  • Building friendships and teamwork skills
  • The Benefits of Avalanche Hockey

Beginners or players new to hockey can still join at this level as they will be placed according to their registration, evaluation or tryout (if relevant) and experience on recreational or competitive teams.
