Hello 2020/2021 U15 (previously Bantam) Families,

Our President Andrew Smyth stated in his association wide communication on April 26 that even though we are living in a time of uncertainty the Avalanche Board is moving forward with our planning for the 2020-2021 season.

This email has important information specific to our NSFIHA Under 15 (U15) Program for the 2020/2021 season.  Hockey Canada renamed the Bantam division to U15 beginning this season.

Based on last years NSFIHA registration numbers, we project that we will only have the numbers for 2 U15 teams this upcoming season.   We have a possible 36 skaters and 3 goalies returning in the U15 age group.   Even if all possible returning skaters registered we do not have enough returning players to reach the numbers required for 3 teams.   We would need a minimum of 42 skaters and 3 goalies in order to make 3 viable teams.  It is possible that U15 players new to NSFIHA register and boost our numbers but at this point that is an big unknown.  As registration number are currently uncertain, we will have to cap registration for the time being for the U15 division assuming 2 larger U15 teams.  After the cap has been reached players will be required to email our registrar Carla Parton at registrar@northshoregirlshockey.com to be placed on a waitlist.

Registration opens this Friday May 1st and we urge you to REGISTER EARLY as we anticipate the cap for 2 teams will be reached.   The date of registration is the main factor in ensuring team placement.  That is, a player who registers on May 1 will have priority over a player who registers on May 2.  Players on the waitlist will be given priority based on the date and time of their email to the registrar.   We may face a situation, as we have in the past, where a returning player can not be placed on a team as the division capacity was reached and the numbers could not be achieved to add an additional team.   Ultimately, our goal is to place every player that wants to play hockey on a team so once we have a better picture of our overall numbers in U13 through U18 we will look at all options to accommodate any players on the U15 waitlist.  Options could include any of the following:

1) adding a 3rd team if numbers could be achieved with new registrants and/or movement up or down a division within NSFIHA
2) moving 1st year U15 players to the U13 division
3) moving 2nd year U15 players to the U18 division

If you know any U15 players who did not play with NSFIHA last season and are hoping to play with NSFIHA this season please advise them to reach out to registrar (registrar@northshoregirlshockey.com) as soon as possible for placement on a waitlist.  Please note returning players will be given priority over players new to NSFIHA until May 31.

Again we urge you to register as soon as possible starting at 6am on May 1.  Please remember that there is an option to complete your registration with only paying $50 now.   If you do have any concerns at all with registering at this time please contact our registrar Carla by email registrar@northshoregirlshockey.com after 6am on the May 1 so we can note your interest while we work together on finding a solution in these challenging times.

Thank you,

Daryl Graham
